Core Challenge

Excess rooms, lack of a 'wow' factor

Key Objective

Create a grand social space and a private master retreat

What is modern luxury? At Pichome Design, we believe it's not about an arbitrary number of rooms, but about the quality and character of the space. Our clients came to us with a large, four-bedroom apartment that was rich in rooms but poor in experience. They didn't need more bedrooms; they needed a home with a soul, a space tailored to their love for entertaining and their desire for a private, personal sanctuary.

The Diagnosis: An Abundance of Space, A Scarcity of Experience

The original layout was a prime example of how more can be less. The compartmentalized rooms created a disconnected feeling, and the sheer number of underutilized bedrooms felt wasteful rather than luxurious.

  • Lack of a Social Heart: The enclosed kitchen and formal living/dining rooms felt stiff and outdated, ill-suited for the fluid, casual way the clients wanted to host friends and family.
  • Underwhelming Master Suite: The master bedroom was functionally identical to the others, lacking the scale, amenities, and sense of retreat that defines a true master suite.
  • Redundant Spaces: With only two people living in the home, two of the four bedrooms were essentially unused, representing a massive opportunity cost in terms of potential living space.

Before & After: Trading Rooms for Experience

The original floor plan showing four separate, underutilized bedrooms.

BEFORE: A conventional layout rich in rooms, poor in character.

The redesigned floor plan showing a consolidated, grand open-living space and a large master suite.

AFTER: A curated space designed for a specific, luxurious lifestyle.

The Design Intervention: A Bold Strategy of Consolidation

Our design concept was audacious: to improve the home by reducing the number of rooms. We proposed sacrificing two bedrooms to create a home that was not just bigger in feel, but better in function and experience.

"We asked our clients: 'Do you want a house with four bedrooms, or do you want a home designed for your life?' The answer was clear, and it gave us the freedom to be bold."
  • The Birth of the 'Great Room': We demolished the walls separating the kitchen, dining room, and an adjacent bedroom. This act of creative destruction gave birth to a spectacular 'Great Room,' an expansive, light-filled space that serves as the home's social epicenter.
  • Forging the Grand Master Suite: The masterstroke was combining two former bedrooms into one magnificent master suite. This new, private wing of the home includes a serene sleeping area, a vast walk-in closet modeled after a luxury boutique, a private study, and a spa-like en-suite bathroom. It is a true retreat from the world.
  • The Chef-Centric Kitchen: The new kitchen is designed as the heart of the social space. A massive island with a waterfall countertop provides a stage for cooking and conversation, while top-of-the-line appliances and custom cabinetry deliver professional-level function.
  • A Proper Guest Suite: The final remaining bedroom was thoughtfully appointed as a private guest suite, ensuring visitors enjoy their own comfortable and secluded space.

The Result: A Home Curated for a Life Well-Lived

By challenging the conventional wisdom that 'more rooms equals more value,' we created a home that perfectly reflects the clients' lifestyle. The new space is grand yet intimate, impressive yet comfortable. It is a powerful statement that true luxury lies not in quantity, but in a perfectly curated experience.
